Reserved seats help ensure that certain perspectives and experience are available for BOD discussions. The process for reserving seats linking it to the issues facing the SOA and the actuarial profession. The BOD identifies upcoming issues; the Leadership Development Committee identifies the skills and experience necessary to address those issues; and the Nominating Committee, after reviewing the composition of the membership and the continuing BOD, along with the skills and experience needed, recommends up to three reserved seats to the BOD for approval.
In this election, three seats have been reserved, and at least two candidates on the ballot fulfill the requirements for each reserved seat:
- One seat for a candidate practicing in the health benefits area of practice.
- One seat for a candidate practicing in the retirement systems area of practice.
- One seat for a candidate living in Canada
The reserved position will be declared filled if a winning Officer candidate who satisfies the criterion is elected. If this is not the case, then the Elected Board Member candidate satisfying the criterion with the highest number of votes is elected.
